African countries, says Kopano Ratele, are weighed down by scores of problems. The oppression of women and girls is only one of these problems.

However, the profeminist scholar cautions that masculine domination is not merely one among many problems, and not a problem for female and feminine subjects only. Instead, the subordination of women and girls, especially in education, exacerbates other problems like income inequality, poverty, HIV/Aids, TB, and violence that plague countries like South Africa and many others.”
